Obituary of Florence M. Drum

Cohocton – Florence M. Drum, 99, passed away peacefully on Sunday October 15, 2017 at Elderwood in Hornell.   

Florence was born February 25, 1918, the daughter of Frederick and Frieda (Beechner) Drum.  She was a member of the graduating class of 1937 in Cohocton.  Florence was employed as a final inspector at the Gunlocke Company in Wayland and upon her retirement from Gunlocke, she came back to the family farm and helped out there.  Florence was a life-time member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, was a Sunday school teacher there, a member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and a member of the Lutheran Layman’s League.  Her hobbies were many as she enjoyed housekeeping sewing and baking.  She enjoyed baking everything from scratch of which she remembered all her recipes.  She loved flowers especially geraniums and was an avid bird watcher with cardinals being her favorite.  Mostly though, Florence loved spending time with her niece, other family members and her many close friends.  

Florence was pre-deceased by her sister Anna Zeh; her brothers Donald, Gordon and Wilbur Drum; her brother-in-law August Zeh and her niece Diane Zeh.  She is survived by her brother Richard Drum of Cohocton; her good friends Gerald and Judy Zeh and their family; along with several cousins within the Drum family.  

Florence’s family and friends may call Sunday from 1-2pm at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 97 Maple Ave., Cohocton, NY.  Her funeral service will be Sunday at 2:30pm at St. Paul’s Church.  Committal prayers and interment will take place immediately following at Mapleview Cemetery in Cohocton.  Contributions in memory of Florence M. Drum may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 97 Maple Ave., Cohocton, NY 14826 or the Cohocton Fire Department, 43 Maple Ave., Cohocton, NY 14826.  Florence and her family have been assisted by the St. George-Stanton Funeral Home, 109 West Naples St., Wayland.
