Obituary of Carmella M. Lindsey

Wayland – Carmella M. Lindsey, 91 years of age, passed away Sunday afternoon, October 8, 2017 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.
 
Carmella was born October 2, 1926 in Dansville, the daughter of Phillip and Catherine (Romano) Granita.  She grew up in Groveland, resided in Dansville for a few years and in the mid 1950’s she move to Wayland where she lived for 40 years or so prior to moving back to Dansville in 1990.  Carmella and Harold Lindsey were married November 9, 1947 at the Holy Name Church of Groveland and celebrated over 14 years of marriage prior to Harold passing away in 1961.  Throughout the years, Carmella worked at Blum’s Shoe Factory and for many years at the Gunlocke Company where she retired from.  Carmella was an avid Bingo player, enjoyed people watching, loved to play cards and had an extraordinary sense of humor.  She will be dearly missed by all her family and loved ones. 
 
Carmella was pre-deceased by her parents, Phillip and Catherine Granita; her husband Harold Lindsey; along with several siblings.  She is survived by her children; daughter Rose (Michael) Maloney of Winston-Salem, NC and her sons, Daniel (Shelly) Lindsey of Summerville, SC and Michael (Carol) Lindsey of Livonia; her grandchildren, Kathleen (Robert) Draper, Jessica Maloney (Donnie Cowart), Shawn Lindsey, Allison Lindsey, Amanda (Patrick) Cayouette, and Michelle (Dan) Piedmonte; her great-grandchildren, Odin, Gabrielle, Kayla and Cylas; her sisters, Lucy Mistretta of Dansville and Sadie LaRosa of Geneseo; along with several nieces and nephews.
 
Carmella’s family and friends may call Friday from 4-7pm at the St. George-Stanton Funeral Home, 109 West Naples St., Wayland, NY.  A family prayer service will be offered at 10:30 am Saturday at the funeral home.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Carmella at 11am Saturday at St. Joseph’s Church, 206 Fremont St., Wayland.  Contributions in memory of Carmella M. Lindsey may be made to American Heart Association, 25 Circle St, Rochester, NY 14607.
