Obituary of Arthur E. Koch III
Wayland – Arthur E. Koch III, 76 years of age, passed away Friday January 24, 2025 at Nicholas H. Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville.
Arthur was born February 28, 1948 in Buffalo the son of Arthur E. Jr. and Helen (Gryczkowski) Koch. He lived in Buffalo for the first eight years of his life and then moved to Bliss, NY and graduated from Letchworth Central School in 1966. He studied at Humboldt Institute in MN and in 1968, Arthur was drafted by the United States Army and served his country during the Vietnam War from March of 1968 . After his deployment in Vietnam, he was stationed in Augusta, GA until his honorable discharge in March of 1971.
Arthur and Brenda Sager met and were married September 20, 1969 at St. Joseph’s Church in Bliss, NY. Together they have celebrated over 55 years of marriage. During their lives together, Art and Brenda resided in Bliss, Dansville, Wayland, Albany and now for the last several years back in Wayland. His employment career was mostly at Foster Wheeler Energy Corporation in Dansville. When Foster Wheeler closed he worked for the Department of New York VFW as the State Adjutant for eleven years and then he retired.
Art was instrumental in establishing the Dansville VFW. He was active with both the Dansville VFW and the NYS VFW, advancing through the ranks and was State Commander in 1995-1996. He was also a member of the Wayland American Legion and Dansville Moose Club.
His hobbies were many throughout the years. He coached Minor League and Little League Baseball along with junior bowling an youth soccer. He and Brenda were in a couples bowling league through Foster Wheeler and enjoyed that for many years. Art also enjoyed fishing, camping and LOVED the Buffalo Bills. His family was very important to him. He made sure they went on vacation every summer and as the years went by he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Arthur was pre-deceased by his parents, Arthur Jr. and Helen Koch; his brother James Koch; his brother in law, David Cordier and his nephew, James Koch. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Koch of Wayland; his son Steven (Peggy) Koch of Fairport and his daughter, Pam Hunt of Perkinsville; his grandchildren, Alexandrea Koch, Adrianna Koch, Charles K. “CJ” Hunt Jr., Konnor Hunt, and Ben and Abbey Divens; his great-grandchildren, Ariel, Olive and Paisley; his siblings, Judy Cordier of Machias, NY, Robert (Judy) Koch of FL, Linda (David) May of Arcade and Sharon “Willie” (Paul) Owens of Bliss; his aunt and uncle, Dan and Norma Carroll of Elma; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Arthur’s family and friends may call Friday January 31st, 2025 from 4-7pm at St. George-Forsythe Funeral Home, 109 West Naples St., Wayland. His funeral service will be Saturday February 1, 2025 at 11am at the funeral home. Committal prayers, military honors and interment will take place immediately following at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Perkinsville.
