Jack Zimmer

Obituary of Jack R. Zimmer

Wayland – Jack R. Zimmer, 69, passed away Tuesday March 18, 2025 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester due to complications with cancer. Jack was born May 14, 1955 in Bath, the son of Roy and Ruth (Lyon) Zimmer. Jack was their fifth and only son. Jack was a life-long resident of Wayland, attending Wayland Central School and beginning his working career. He worked at Itek in Rochester and Crosman Arms in East Bloomfield. Back problems and arthritis forced Jack to take an early retirement. Despite his pain and difficulty with walking he never complained. At the time of his retirement, he took an interest in family genealogy and spent many hours at the Wayland Free Library doing research. He was a man of few words, but he liked to share what he had learned with others. Jack loved being around people and enjoyed going to the Hometown Diner and Palmer’s restaurant in Wayland to socialize. He became an unofficial greeter at both places. The diner especially became Jack’s home away from home. He liked to visit with other customers and was always quick to help the staff with small jobs around the restaurant. Jack’s family would like to thank his friends for being there for him throughout the years. Your kindness is appreciated. Jack was pre-deceased by his parents, Roy and Ruth Zimmer. He is survived by his son, Ryan and his daughter Jeena, both of Dansville; his sisters, Joyan Nolan of Perinton, Janis Zimmer-Hall of Wayland, Judy (Robert) Parmiter of Newark and Jerrie Briggs of Wayland; his grandchildren, Broden and Jakob; his aunt, Ann Zimmer of Warrenton, WA; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. Jack’s family and friends may call Saturday March 29th, 2025 from 11am – 1pm at St. George-Forsythe Funeral Home, 109 West Naples St., Wayland. During calling hours and directly after, family and friends are invited to continue celebrating Jack’s life at Palmer’s Last Stop Restaurant, 1 N. Main Street, Wayland. This begins at 12pm. Contributions in memory of Jack R. Zimmer may be made to the Vincent House, 310 Second Avenue, Wayland, NY 14572 or to the Wayland Free Library, 101 West Naples St., Wayland, NY 14572.
