Wayland – Claude R. Schrader, 82 years of age, passed away Friday morning July 25, 2025, at Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville.

Claude was born October 9, 1942, in Wayland the son of Robert L. and Mildred E. (Bill) Schrader. He grew up in Wayland and graduated from Wayland Central School. Claude served in the United States Army and was a welder and worked for the Erie /Lackawanna Railroad out of Hornell for many years; Apex Acres; Covered Wagon and lastly, he retired from Foster Wheeler after many years there. Claude and Ethel Jean Smith wed May 11, 1991, and resided in Pine City, NY for 15 years until her passing in 2005. Claude then moved back to Wayland in 2006 and has remained there since.

Claude’s hobbies were many. He enjoyed coaching and umpiring Little League and Babe Ruth baseball, going to the horse races and playing cards, especially Euchre. Claude was a member of the NCA Sports Club, the Wayland Fire Department and the Wayland United Methodist Church. He and Ethel enjoyed travelling, especially their trip to Germany and the Kentucky Derby.

Claude was pre-deceased by his parents, Robert and Mildred Schrader; his wife, Ethel Jean Schrader; his former wife, Wanda Schrader and recently his companion, Nancy Guyette. He is survived by his children, Jill (David Jr.) Conrad, Renae (Michael) Giancursio, Robert (Michelle) Schrader, Matthew (Athena) Schrader and Brett (Carol) Schrader; his grandchildren, Amanda (Andrew) DeWispelaere, Megan (Brandon) Conrad, Madison Conrad, Christopher (Jennifer) Giancursio, Sarah (Ronald) Davis, Jessica (Stephen) Lynch, John, Lauren and Kate Schrader, Alexis (Christianson) Lawhorn, Makayla and Victoria Schrader, Alex and Greyson Schrader; his great grandchildren, Amelia, Alivia, Elena, Elliot, Maxene, Benjamin, Adelaide and Wilder. A special “Thank You!” to Carol Smith and all of Claude’s caregivers.

Claude’s family and friends are invited to call Tuesday July 29, 2025 from 4-7 pm at St. George-Forsythe Funeral Home, 109 West Naples St., Wayland. Claude’s funeral service will be immediately following calling hours at 7pm at the funeral home. Private interment and military honors will take place at Bath National Cemetery.
