Wayland – Rochester - Leonard James Butler Sr., of Wayland, New York, 84, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2025, just two days shy of his 85th birthday. Born on October 20, 1940, in Rochester, New York, Leonard spent his life rooted in the community he loved. He lived the majority of his life in Rochester and then moved to Wayland where he has spent the last several years.
Leonard built a career as an appliance repairman in Rochester, where he worked for both Sammy’s and Savage Appliance Services. Known for his dedication and work ethic, he served countless customers over the years with reliability and care.
He had a deep passion for trains and a lifelong interest in the history of Rochester. These hobbies brought him great joy and connected him to the rich heritage of the region he called home.
Leonard was preceded in death by his beloved wives, Helen Butler and Vivian V. Butler, as well as his mother, Gertrude Arntsen. He is remembered with love by his children: Leonard (Elaine) Butler Jr., Tina (Scott) Martin, Joanne (Ted) Schoonmaker, Timothy Butler, Phillip Butler (Mark Brennan) and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to neighbors, friends, the staff at Noyes Hospital, all emergency responders, and the team at Livingston County Nursing and Rehabilitation for their compassionate care and support throughout Leonard’s later years.
