Obituary of Christopher Brian Wellington

Avoca - Christopher Brian Wellington, 57 years of age, passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2026, with his loving family by his side. Chris was born December 18, 1968 in Elmira, the son of Maynard and Barbara (Hanrahan) Wellington. He grew up in Corning and graduated from Corning East High School in 1987. He later earned a degree as an Automotive Specialist from Alfred State College. Throughout his life, Chris was known for his strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit. Over the years he worked for several companies including being a mechanic at Toshiba, an instructor at BOCES, and a dispatcher for a local trucking company. However, Chris truly thrived as an entrepreneur. Through his business, CBW Enterprises, he owned and maintained numerous properties and was always looking for the next opportunity to grow his business. Chris had a personality that was impossible to forget. He loved staying connected with family through Facebook Messenger, often sending the latest memes (which he called “me-mes”) and making sure everyone saw them. He had a passion for dirt bikes, four-wheelers, monster trucks, and working on old Novas. His grandchildren were especially important to him, and he took great joy in making sure each of them had their own dirt bike or four-wheeler to enjoy. Chris was always thinking of new ideas and ways to make a little extra money, even from the simplest things. He was known for sharpening pencils he found in school waste cans and selling them for a few cents. His sense of humor and unique outlook on life made everyday moments memorable. When he found a great deal on Facebook Marketplace, you could count on hearing his signature phrase: “I just found a smoking deal!” Chris kept meticulous records of his life on index cards he carried with him, something that amazed and amused his family. One of his favorite places was his pond, where he enjoyed raising, caring for, and watching all of his Koi fish. Beyond his hobbies, he loved hunting and fishing and believed strongly in giving back to his community. He proudly served a term as the Avoca Town Supervisor. Chris will be remembered for his humor, such as telling jokes, often long drawn-out stories that took forever to get to the punchline, but his laughter at the end always made it clear that he thought it was worth the wait. He will also be remembered for his determination, his famous phrases “Yeppers”, “Cool, cool”, and “Dude!” and the love he had for his family. He lived life on his own terms and left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. Chris was pre-deceased by his father, Maynard Wellington, along with many beloved aunts and uncles from both the Wellington and Hanrahan families. He is survived by his life partner, Jeri Davis of Avoca. He also leaves behind his cherished daughters, Elizabeth Wellington (David White) of Dansville and Haleigh (Quintin) Thistle of Avoca; his mother, Barbara Wellington; and his beloved grandchildren, Colin, Aryah, Carsyn, Eliana, Hudsyn, Watsyn, and Raelynn. He is also survived by Jeri’s children, Bradley Davis and Brooklyn Frank; his sister, Heather (Jim) Feely of Wayland; and nieces, Emily, Ashley, Olivia, Amelia, and Isabella. To honor Chris’ wishes, there will be no formal funeral services. A private celebration of life will be held at the convenience of the family. Contributions in memory of Christopher Brian Wellington may be made to St. Jude, 2080 State Route 63, Wayland, NY 14572.
