Obituary of Leon S. Carpenter

Dansville – Leon A. Carpenter, “Skip” – 82 years of age, passed away Saturday afternoon, June 24, 2023 at his home in Dansville. Skip was born March 17, 1941 in Wayland the son of Earl and Gertrude (Dann) Carpenter. He grew up in the Wayland area and then resided in Dansville for most of his life. He worked at Matthew’s and Fields Lumber for over 42 years, retiring as a foreman. Skip and Lois Collins were married August 30, 1958 at the rectory of St. Patrick’s in Dansville. Together they have celebrated over 64 years of marriage! Skip loved spending time with his family and friends, shopping and camping. Mostly though he enjoyed his time with his Lois. Throughout the years, Skip enjoyed membership in the Dansville Moose Club and the Wayland Historical Society. Skip was pre-deceased by his father, Earl Carpenter; his mother and step father, Gertrude and Roland Carney; his siblings, Earl Carpenter Jr., Albert “Pat” Carpenter, Nita Philbrick and Pauline Carpenter; his step siblings, Donald Carney, Ralph Carney and Doris Menteer; and two great grandsons, Justin Carpenter and Seth Carpenter. He is survived by his wife of over 64 years, Lois Carpenter; his children, Joyce (Neil) Roberts, Sally Russell (Dickie Driesbach) and Larry (Linda) Carpenter; his grandchildren, Robbi (Patty) Carpenter, Joshua Roberts, Matthew (Kara) Russell, Erica (Chuck) Conge, Adam Russell and Larry Carpenter II; 10 great-grandchildren; siblings, Minnie May “Mitzy” (Gary) Barcomb and Charles “Rusty” Carpenter; along with several nieces and nephews. Skip’s family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of life on Saturday July 8, 2023 from 1-4pm at the Powers Inn, 9360 Woodsville Rd., Dansville, NY.
