Obituary of Diane M. Reimels

Wayland – Diane M. “Diner” Reimels, 76, passed away peacefully Saturday morning, November 25, 2023, at Brookdale Fort Myers The Colony in Florida. Diane was born June 10, 1947 in Wayland where she grew up, the daughter of Lucian and Rita (Yohon) Hills. She was a proud graduate of St. Joseph’s Catholic School, Wayland Central School Class of ’65 and attended the University of Miami. On August 19, 1967 Diane and Kenneth Reimels were married in St. Joseph’s Church, officiated by Rt. Rev. Monsignor Adelbert J. Schneider, and together celebrated over 56 years of marriage. She enjoyed life as a homemaker for her family; worked alongside her husband Ken managing their large and small animal Veterinary practice for 40 years supporting surrounding communities; she also worked with Ken on the potato farms they owned and operated for many years. Diane was a devout Catholic and communicant of St. Joseph’s Church; attended mass for most of her adult life; a past member of the Rosary Society; and recited the Rosary daily. Her dear childhood neighbor, friend for life, Paula Abraham introduced her to quilting which she enjoyed; and thank you to Jane McLaughlin, Diane’s best friend since first grade at St. Joseph’s School for her loving support. A voracious reader, Diane enjoyed the sun wintering in Florida, an avid golfer, love of embroidering that included baby blankets for many of their clients, family and friends. She so enjoyed going with mother Rita and Aunt Bernadine to the annual summer luncheon with their cousins the “Gessner” daughters, Mary Smith, Margaret Forsythe, Lee Morsch, and Alice Shaver. Above all else, she loved her family, a devoted wife, mother, daughter, and sister whose unconditional love and support will be deeply missed. Heaven has gained a beautiful Angel. Diane was pre-deceased by her parents, Lucian and Rita Hills; and her daughter Heidi in 1980. She is survived by her husband, the love of her life, Kenneth Reimels; her children Tammy Reimels of Perry, and Tony Reimels of Dansville; her sister Mary (Mark) West of Honeoye, Anne (Hubert) Vogt of Wayland; nephews Matthew (Katie Dokus) West, Thomas West and Ryan Vogt, grand-niece Serena West, uncle Robert (Barbara) Reimels, brother-in-law Gordon (Donna) Reimels, many cousins, and countless dear friends including her beloved Class of ’65. Her family is deeply grateful to the staff at Brookdale Fort Myers The Colony, Hope Hospice and Vitas Hospice for the loving compassionate care shown to Diane and our family throughout her journey; heartfelt thank you to Robert and Barbara Reimels for their love and support as well. The happiness and memories and magic that we shared. ~ Warren Hanson, The Next Place
