Obituary of William H. Springer

Honeoye – William H. “Bill” Springer, 72 years of age, passed away (killed from Agent Orange) late Friday evening September 2, 2016 at his home. Bill was born May 15, 1944 in Buffalo the son of Charles and Lena (Coon) Springer. He grew up in Hornell and subsequent to graduating from Hornell High School in 1963, he served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War from August 21, 1963 until his honorable discharge August 18, 1967. Bill then moved to Connecticut for a few years and in 1970, he settled in Honeoye and has remained a resident of that area. Bill was employed for a few years at Pratt Whitney in Connecticut as a jet engine mechanic, a trade he learned in the Air Force. Upon his move back to Honeoye, he began employment at Kodak and retired as production coordinator in December of 1999 after 29 years and 8 months there. On April 21, 1990, Bill and Donna Fox were married in Caledonia and celebrated 24 years together prior to Donna passing away in January of 2015. Bill was a very active member of the Lima American Legion Post # 282 located in West Bloomfield. He was past commander five times throughout the years. Bill also was a member of the Elks Club in Canandaigua. He enjoyed playing cards, deer hunting and especially spending time at his cabin in Birdsall. Bill was pre-deceased by his parents, Charles and Lena Springer; his wife, Donna Springer; his brother Clifford Springer; and his sisters, Ann Campbell and Velma Waight. He is survived by his children Colleen Springer (Melissa Robert) of Naples, Bonnie (John) Steff of Naples, Shelley (Brent) Quackenbush of Wayland, Becky (Dan) Van Allen of Wayland; his grandchildren, Chelsea Steff (Jason Huff), Hannah Steff, Taylor, Jordyn and Dillin Quackenbush and Brittany (Curtis) Minster; his great-grandchildren, Giana and Cecilia Huff and Liam Minster; along with nieces and nephews in the Hornell/Jasper area. Bill’s family and friends may call from 10 – 1pm Saturday September 10, 2016 at the St. George-Stanton Funeral Home, 109 West Naples St., Wayland. His funeral service will be at 1pm Saturday at the funeral home. Committal prayers with military honors will take place immediately following at Union Cemetery in Livonia.
