Obituary of Raymond F. Alger

Hornell / Silver Creek - Raymond Frederick Alger, 89 years of age, passed away Friday, September 16, 2016 at Autumn Care of Myrtle Grove Healthcare Facility in Wilmington, NC. Ray was born in Hornellsville, March 31, 1927 the son of William and Pauline (Gottschall) Alger. He married the love of his life on March 15, 1950, Doris Lander. Together they celebrated over 65 years of marriage prior to Doris passing away December 2, 2015. Ray was a 1945 graduate of Hornell High School. He worked for many years in the electronics industry at both Gowanda Electronics and Remtronics in Silver Creek, retiring as a supervisor. His hobbies were many as he enjoyed woodworking, reading, gardening, playing horseshoes and he especially loved bowling. His family was also a great joy Ray’s especially his grandchildren. Ray was pre-deceased by his parents, William and Pauline Alger; his wife, Doris Alger; his sister Evelyn Percy; his brother-in-law Gerv Percy. He is survived by his daughter, Sandra Alger of Knightdale, NC and his son Thomas (Kathleen) Alger of Leland, NC; his grandchildren: Cindy Goldwater, Cassie Apthorpe, Adam Alger (Heather), Brian Alger (Bethany); great-grandchildren: Emily Goldwater, Colin Goldwater, Aidan Alger; his sister, Geraldine Percy of Pulaski, along with several nieces and nephews. Ray’s family and friends may call Friday September 30, 2016 from 12:00 – 1:00pm at the St. George Stanton Funeral Home, 109 West Naples Street, Wayland, NY 14572. Ray’s funeral service will be at 1:00pm following calling hours at the funeral home. A private interment will take place at Forest Lawn Cemetery in South Dansville.
