Obituary of Rita M. Hills

Wayland – Rita M. Hills, 92 years of age, passed away peacefully, Wednesday April 5, 2017 at Nicholas H. Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville. Rita was born in Springwater, April 2, 1925 the daughter of Sylvester and Florine (Vogt) Yohon. Rita was a native and life resident of the Springwater / Wayland areas. She was a graduate of St. Joseph’s Catholic School and a high school graduate of Wayland School. Rita and Lucian Hills were married February 10, 1945 in Wayland and celebrated over 26 years of marriage prior to Lucian passing away. Rita enjoyed life as a homemaker for her family and she owned and operated a potato farm with Lucian. Rita was a devout catholic and communicant of St. Joseph’s Church; attended mass for most of her adult life; a past member of the Rosary Society; and recited the Rosary daily. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing and was “good devoted neighbor for years.” Rita was pre-deceased by her parents, Sylvester and Florine Yohon; her husband, Lucian Hills in 1971; her granddaughter, Heidi Reimels in 1980; and her sister, Bernadine Mehlenbacher in 2016. She is survived by her three daughters, Diane (Kenneth) Reimels of Wayland, Mary (Mark) West of Honeoye and Anne (Hubert) Vogt of Wayland; her 5 grandchildren, Tammy Reimels, Tony Reimels, Matthew West, Thomas West and Ryan Vogt; along with several nieces and nephews. Rita’s family would like to take this opportunity to express appreciation and a special “Thank You” to the staff and physicians of Noyes Hospital and the Livingston County Center for Nursing and Rehab for the excellent and compassionate care given to Rita. Thank you also to Comfort Keepers caregivers for their companionship with Rita when she was in her home. Rita’s family and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial that will be celebrated for her Monday April 10th at 11am at St. Joseph’s Church, 206 Fremont St., Wayland. Committal prayers and interment will take place immediately following at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Wayland. Contributions in memory of Rita M.
