Obituary of Francis F. Holmes

Springwater – Francis F. Holmes, 82 years of age, passed away early Wednesday morning, May 24, 2017 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

Francis was born November 3, 1934 in Springwater the son of Merton and Edna (Barnhart) Holmes.  He grew up in Springwater and remained a life resident of that area.  Francis and Anne Marie Ackley were married in 1953 and together celebrated over 47 years of marriage prior to Anne Marie passing away in August of 2001.  Francis’s working career was mostly spent at Stone Conveyor in Honeoye and subsequent to that he was employed at Star Headlight in Avon. 

Francis had a commitment to serve his community as evidenced by his 60 plus years in the Springwater Fire Department, serving as chief several times and as president.  He also was a past county fire commissioner and past secretary of the county fireman’s association.  His hobbies also included fishing and working on small engines whenever he could. 

Francis was pre-deceased by his parents, Merton and Edna Holmes; his wife, Anne Marie; his brother, Edward Holmes; and his brother-in-law, Pete Englert.  He is survived by his three sons, David Holmes (Linda Craun) of Springwater, Stephen (Susie) Holmes of Springwater and Kevin Holmes of Wayland; his grandchildren, Allyssa and Amanda Holmes; his sister, Dorothy Englert of Springwater; his nieces Jean (Jan) Fox and Judy (Larry) Brooks; along with other nieces and nephews. 

Francis’s family and friends may call Friday from 4-7pm at the St. George-Stanton Funeral Home, 109 West Naples St., Wayland, NY 14572.  His funeral service will be Saturday at 12pm at the Springwater United Methodist Church, 7999 S. Main St., Springwater, NY.  Committal prayers and interment will take place immediately following at the Wayland Village Cemetery.  Contributions in memory of Francis F.
