Obituary of Evelyn J. Shaffer
Perkinsville – Evelyn J. Shaffer, 75 years of age, passed away early Friday evening August 4, 2017 at Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville.
Evelyn was born September 4, 1941 in Cully, Cherry Township, PA, the daughter of Warren J. and Leotine (Fenton) Crawford. She grew up in and resided in different areas of Pennsylvania. On October 5, 1958, Evelyn and Tom Shaffer were married and together celebrated over 50 years together prior to Tom passing away in October of 2008. Evelyn and Tom resided in Pennsylvania, Avon, Lakeville and eventually settled in Perkinsville in the early 1970’s. She has resided there ever since.
Evelyn worked as a dietician at Noyes Memorial Hospital for over 24 years, and upon retirement from there she worked at Wayland – Cohocton Central School for over 10 years, retiring from there as well. Evelyn loved to bake, crochet and she was a “social butterfly” that loved to visit with friends. She enjoyed cleaning houses for people and volunteering at the local funeral luncheons. Another favorite of Evelyn’s was watching the bands at Sammie’s in Dansville.
Evelyn was pre-deceased by her parents; her husband Tom; and siblings, Lewis, Clayton, Walter, Lloyd and Mary. She is survived by her children, Edward “Charlie” Shaffer (Katie) of Geneva, Thomas E. Shaffer of Wayland, James W. (Kelly) Shaffer of Wayland, William C.Shaffer (William L. Saunders) of Lakeland, FL and Donald C. (Anne) Shaffer of Nunda; a very special nephew and his wife, Ralph “Mickey” (Terry) Shaffer of Wayland; grandchildren, Tara Shaffer, Jessica Shaffer, Dylan Shaffer, Keileen Shaffer, Matthew Shaffer, Julia Shaffer, Jernee Smalt and her mother, Michelle Evans, Josh Sliker and Amanda Blonsky; her great-grandchild, Brooke Reynolds; her siblings, Jim Crawford of PA, Ervon ( June) Crawford of PA, Gordon Crawford (Patti) of PA, Jesse Crawford of Elmira, Donald Crawford of PA, Marilyn (Fran) Stringham of PA and Karl (Linda) Crawford of PA; along with many nieces and nephews.
Evelyn’s family and friends may call Wednesday from 1-3 and 6-8pm at the St. George-Stanton Funeral Home, 109 West Naples St., Wayland. Evelyn’s funeral service will be Thursday at 2pm at the funeral home. Committal prayers and interment will take place immediately following at St. Peter’s Cemetery.
