Obituary of Vivian B. Wheaton
Atlanta – Vivian B. Wheaton, 84 years of age, passed away Friday evening, October 13th at the Conesus Lake Nursing Home where she had been residing for the past few years.
Vivian was born October 11, 1933 in Wayland the daughter of Verne and Mildred (Kuhn) Shafer. She grew up in Wayland and was a 1951 graduate of Wayland Central School. Vivian also attained a bachelor’s degree in business from Alfred State College. Vivian and Robert Wheaton were married April 26, 1952 at the Atlanta Presbyterian Church. Together they celebrated over 53 years of marriage prior to Robert passing away in May of 2005. Vivian and Robert resided in Atlanta their entire time together and upon his death, she moved to Rochester for a few years prior to her move to Alpine Manor Assisted Living then Conesus Lake Nursing Home. Vivian’s employment career spanned a few different areas that included; Birdseye, Moore-Cottrell, Craig Developmental and finally the NYS Division of Parole, retiring from there in 1992.
Vivian’s hobbies were many as she enjoyed playing cards, especially pitch, euchre, rounce and she loved to play dominoes. Crocheting and bowling were also a favorite. She enjoyed travelling to different areas on the east coast and Vivian enjoyed camping. Volunteering was also a part of her life as she was an elder within the Atlanta Presbyterian Church, past treasurer of the Clearview Cemetery Association and a member of the A.N.C. Inc. (for the betterment of the communities of Atlanta and North Cohocton).
Vivian was pre-deceased by her parents; her husband Robert; a son Robin Wheaton; a son-in-law, Jerry Deusenbery; brother LaVerne Shafer and his wife Wanda, brother Larry Shafer; sister Joyce Macaluso and her husband Charles and brother-in-law William Shaver. She is survived by her children, Sheldon “Shady” (Mary) Wheaton of TX, Karen Wheaton (Phillip Zeh) of Atlanta, Cheryl Deusenbery of Wayland, Randy Wheaton of Livonia and Todd (Amy) Wheaton of Penfield; 22 grandchildren; 17 great-granchildren; her siblings, Don (Norma) Shafer of Perkinsville, Raymond (Mary Jean) Shafer of Camden, Sharon (Stan) Randall of NC and Dawn Shaver of Wayland; along with many nieces and nephews.
Vivian’s family and friends are invited to attend her graveside service Saturday, October 21, 2017 at 11am at Clearview Cemetery in N. Cohocton. Contributions in memory of Vivian B. Wheaton may be made to Hatch Hose Fire Company, University Ave., Atlanta, NY 14808 or to the Atlanta Presbyterian Church, 2 West Main St., Atlanta, NY 14808 or to the EJ Cottrell Library, 30 West Main St., Atlanta, NY 14808.
