Obituary of Norman F. Schneider
Cohocton – Norman “Frank” Schneider, 84 years of age, passed away Tuesday morning December 12, 2017 at Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville.
Frank was born March 21, 1933 in Cohocton the son of Norman and Irene (Allen) Schneider. Frank attended and graduated from Cohocton Central School and remained a life resident of the Cohocton area. Frank and Vivian Flor were married May 25, 1963 at St. Stanislaus Church in Rochester and together celebrated 47 years of marriage, prior to Vivian passing away in June of 2010.
Frank worked hard his whole life. He started off potato farming with his father and eventually took over the family farm in 1953. In 1962, he entered the NYS Police Academy and worked as a trooper for a short time. He had several jobs over the next few years including owning and operating the Esso Gas Station in Cohocton with his brother-in-law DeMerle Wise and working nights as a meter attendant in Rochester. Frank and Vivian owned and operated Schneider’s Country Store in Cohocton for over 10 years. Frank loved woodworking and eventually purchased his own portable saw mill which he ran for many years.
Frank had many hobbies and interests. He always enjoyed farming so he and Vivian raised their family on a small farm with sheep, horses, pigs and chickens. He spent many hours building cabinets and other woodworking projects. When he purchased the sawmill he was able to build a new house for he and Vivan and he helped build 2 others for his children. He enjoyed hunting, going out to dinner with Vivian and socializing with everyone! Frank was a communicant of St. Pius Church and the caretaker of St. Pius Cemetery for many years. He was an avid birdwatcher in his final years. Frank’s biggest pride and joy was his family. He would do anything for his children. His grandchildren and great grandchildren always brought the biggest smiles to his face.
