Obituary of Gerald H. Peterson

Springwater – Gerald H. “Jerry” Peterson, 73 years of age, passed late Saturday afternoon, December 30, 2017 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

Jerry was born September 26, 1944 in Proctor, MN the son of Leslie and Dorothy (Voltzke) Peterson.  He grew up in Minnesota and when he was 19 years old he moved to Rochester, NY and in 1973 he moved to Springwater to the house he built and remained there ever since.  Jerry and Marianne Kummer were married August 7, 1971 and together they celebrated over 39 years of marriage prior to Marianne passing away in November of 2009. 

Jerry’s employment career was mostly spent in the operations department of JC Penney’s.  Whatever needed to be done with the building and grounds of JC Penney’s he was called upon.  He saw the first brick placed at the Marketplace Mall and until last Tuesday he was there most every day.  Jerry was a servant of his community.  He was a life member of the Springwater Ambulance Company; and EMT for over 30 years; and served on numerous Livingston County EMS Committees.  He was an avid wood worker with amazing ability and could build just about anything.  Jerry also served his country in the United States Marine Corps. 

Jerry was pre-deceased by his parents, Leslie and Dorothy Peterson; his beloved wife, Marianne; and a brother Terry Peterson.  He is survived by his daughter Jennifer (Todd) Barrett of Orlando, FL and his son Kenneth (Kelly) Peterson of Lancaster; his grandchildren, Claudia, Kaleb, Khloe, Amanda and Phillip; his siblings, Roger (Cheryl) Peterson of OR, Janet Peterson of MN, Marie Janetta of CO, Bruce Peterson of MN; his sister-in-law Beth Peterson of MN; his sister-in-law (Marianne’s sister) Marie Streppa who has been there for support throughout the years; along with several nieces and nephews. 

Jerry’s family and friends may call Friday from 4-7pm at the St. George-Stanton Funeral Home, 109 West Naples St., Wayland.  His funeral service will be Saturday at 11am at the funeral home.  Interment will take place at the convenience of his family.  Contributions in memory of Jerry may be made to the Wilmot Cancer Center , Univ. of Rochester , 601 Elmwood Avenue , Rochester , NY 14642 .
