Obituary of Janice H Conrad

On January 28, 2015 Janice (Jan) Herington Conrad passed away peacefully at home. She was born November 19, 1936 in Rochester, New York the daughter of Lawrence and Grace Elizabeth Herington. On February 4, 1956 she married her husband Anthony in Dansville, New York. They lived in New York, Colorado and Alaska and for the last 45 years they have lived in Tok, Alaska raising their children. While in New York, Jan was a telephone operator and while in Alaska, she was a full time housewife and later self-employed. She also worked part time as a jail guard for the State Troopers and a custodian for the United States Post Office. She was best known for her business, Jan’s Dairy Den where she baked homemade bread, cinnamon rolls and served soft ice cream. Jan was active in her church, Holy Rosary Catholic Church and the Tok-A-Tans Homemakers Club. She loved to ride her bike and being outdoors. Each spring, she’d plant red and orange straw flowers amongst her rock flower beds. She had beautiful handwriting, enjoyed baking, cooking, crafts, crocheting, reading and playing cards (canasta was her game). Jan loved raising rabbits; always had a dog and enjoyed puppies; in fact right up until her passing she wanted to go and find the puppies. She enjoyed browsing antique stores and collecting old miniature glass shoes. Janice was pre-deceased by her parents Lawrence and Grace Elizabeth Herington; her sister, Judy Johnson; and her sons, Joseph, Charles and Tony Conrad, III. Janice is survived by her husband Anthony Conrad of Tok, Alaska; three son’s John (Trisha) Conrad of Aurora, Colorado, Tim (Sabrina) Conrad of Wasilla, Alaska and Bryce Conrad of Tok, Alaska; her daughter Lisa Conrad, of Tok, Alaska. Six grandchildren Josh Rallo, Jacob and Kayla Conrad, Carter, Clayton & Grant Conrad; along with several nieces and nephews. Janice’s family and friends may call Friday February 6th, 2015 from 4:00 – 7:00pm at the St. George-Stanton Funeral Home, 109 West Naples St., Wayland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Janice on Saturday Feb. 7, 2015 at 10:00am at Sacred Heart Church in Perkinsville. Committal prayers and internment will take place immediately following at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Perkinsville. This coming spring, there will be a memorial service in Jan’s hometown of Tok, Alaska.
