Obituary of Joseph Fox Jr.
Wayland – Joseph Fox Jr., 91 years of age, passed away Tuesday afternoon February 20, 2018 at Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville.
Joe was born July 1, 1926 in Cohocton the son of Joseph Sr. and Mamie (VanWormer) Fox. He grew up in Cohocton and was a graduate of Cohocton Central School. Joe and Sally Briggs were married October 14, 1950 and together have celebrated over 67 years of marriage. In 1948, Joe moved to Wayland and in 1950 he purchased his parents’ farm. Joe and Sally successfully owned and operated Joe Fox Farms for several decades. He loved farming and worked very hard it. Joe and Sally enjoyed travelling; especially internationally as they traveled all over the world, including Europe and Australia. He was a member of the Empire State Potatoes Growers Association, the Loyal Order of the Moose and the Knights of Columbus.
Joe was predeceased by his parents; two daughters, Renee Fox and Deborah Repka; a son, Andrew Fox; brothers, Leonard, James, and Charles Fox; sisters, Kate Pragle and Marion Fox. Joe is survived by his loving wife of over 67 years Sally Fox of Wayland; his children, Daniel (Rose) Fox of Wayland, Jane (David) Mehlenbacher of Cohocton and Joseph M. Fox of N. Chili; his son-in-law, Robert Repka of NJ; his grandchildren, Rachael Repka, Russell (Jen) Repka, Ryan (Ashley) Repka, Tara (Josh) Longe, Autumn (TJ) Canfield, Kurt Mehlenbacher, Eric Mehlenbacher, Jonathan and Kaitlin Fox, Christopher Barnes; his great-grandchildren, Reagan, Reese, Shane, Issac, Ethan and Addison; his siblings, Rosalyn Stoffel of AZ, Tom (Jen) Fox of Rochester, Claira Mark of Rochester and Harold Fox of Albion, NY; along with several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Joe’s family and friends are invited to call Friday from 4-7pm at the St. George-Stanton Funeral Home, 109 West Naples St., Wayland. A family prayer service will be offered at 10:15am Saturday at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Joe Saturday at 11am at St. Joseph’s Church in Wayland. Committal prayers and interment will take place immediately following at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Wayland. Contributions in memory of Joseph Fox Jr. may be made to the Vincent House, 310 Second Ave., Wayland, NY 14572 or to a charity of your choice.
