Obituary of Elsie G. Wallace

Atlanta – Elsie G. Wallace, 90 years of age, passed away early Sunday morning, June 24, 2018 at her home. 

 

Elsie was born May 27, 1928 in Wayland the daughter of Maynard and Mildred (Keeler) Warner.  She grew up in the Loon Lake area and had resided the majority of her life in Atlanta.  She was a graduate of Wayland High School and she attended Geneseo College for two years.  Elsie and Robert Wallace were married October 30, 1948 at the Atlanta Presbyterian Church and together celebrated over 48 years of marriage prior to Robert passing away November 7, 1996. 

 

Elsie’s employment career included 20 years with the United States Postal Service, retiring as the postmaster of the Atlanta Post Office.  Elsie also was a Sunday School Teacher for the Atlanta Presbyterian Church.  Her hobbies were many.  Elsie loved playing cards, especially her Sunday games of pitch with her grandchildren.  She enjoyed live theatre, reading, travelling, doing crossword puzzles and Elsie especially loved her annual wager on the Kentucky Derby.    She was a member of the Wayland Lowell Club; a volunteer for NAC (Naples Activity Center) which supported several local veterans’ activities; a volunteer at the Wayland-Cohocton Elementary School; and a very active member of the Trinity Federated Church in Naples. 

 

Elsie was pre-deceased by her parents, Maynard and Mildred Warner; her husband Robert Wallace; her son Tedd Wallace; her brothers, Milford “Bud” Warner and Ardean Warner; and her sister, Marion Walker.  She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Lynnette Wallace of Avoca; her children, James (Linda) Wallace of Wayland, Ronald Wallace of Atlanta, David (Marsha) Wallace of Wayland and Susan (John) Murphy of Wayland; her grandchildren, John (Stephania) Wallace, Joseph Wallace (Rebecca Rizzo) Sam (Alyssa) Wallace, Pete Wallace (Courtney Lewis), Michael Wallace, Kristina (Seth) Newfang, Phillip Murphy (Nikki Kan), Michael Murphy (Theresa Sweeney) and Robert Murphy; her great-grandchildren, Noah, Levi, Ainsley and Grayson; her sisters in law, Virginia Warner of Wayland, Laura Mae Wallace of Naples and Joan Wallace of Cohocton; her brother in law, Ken Howey of Florida; several nieces, nephews and cousins; her special friend, Jack Samter of Naples; along with several devoted caregivers in recent years.

 

Elsie’s family and friends may call Tuesday from 4-7pm at the St. George-Stanton Funeral Home, 109 West Naples St., Wayland.  Her memorial service will be Wednesday at 11am at the Trinity Federated Church, 123 South Main St., Naples.  Committal prayers and interment will take place immediately following at Clearview Cemetery in N.
