Obituary of Richard F. Drum

Cohocton – Richard F. Drum, 97 years of age, passed away early Friday afternoon, July 13, 2018 at the Livingston County Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Mt. Morris.

Rich was born February 5, 1921 in Cohocton, “on a Saturday morning!”  He was the son of Frederick C. and Frieda (Beechner) Drum.  He grew up in Cohocton and had remained a life resident of that area.  His entire career was as a farmer.  Rich worked a local farm for 16 years and then began farming on the family farm, (Drum Brothers) for the rest of his life.  He was an amazingly hard worker and could be seen unloading hay off the wagon or stacking in the mow, well into his 80’s.  He kept current on Farming trends by listening to RFD TV.  Rich enjoyed many hobbies such as gardening, feeding the birds, and listening to the weather on the radio.  He was always puttering around on the farm, trimming grass with his hand sickle and quite often with a cigar.  Rich’s sense of humor was one of a kind.  He had an amazing quantity of one-liners that could be put in a book!  He was a faithful member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and loved having the Bible read to him and listening to Renfro Valley Gatherin Radio Program on Sundays.

Rich was pre-deceased by his parents; his brothers, Donald, Wilbur and Gordon; his sisters Anna Zeh and Florence Drum; his brother-in-law, August Zeh; and a niece, Diane Zeh.  He is survived by his good friends Gerald and Judy Zeh and their family and many cousins within the Drum family.

Richard’s family and friends may call Tuesday from 3-5pm at the St. George-Stanton Funeral Home, 109 West Naples St., Wayland.  His funeral service will be Tuesday at 6pm at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 97 Maple Ave., Cohocton, NY.  Interment will take place at Mapleview Cemetery in Cohocton.  Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 97 Maple St., Cohocton, NY 14826.
