Obituary of Bill Caskey

Springwater – William “Bill” F. Caskey, 78 years of age, passed away late Friday afternoon, February 15, 2019 at his home. 

 

 Bill was born September 16, 1940 the son of Clyde and Helen (Wilcox) Caskey. He grew up in and has remained a resident of the Springwater area his entire life and was a graduate of Wayland Central School Class of 1958.  After graduation he attended Wanakena Ranger School.  Bill and Ethel Hettrick were married in 1965 and together celebrated over 33 years of marriage prior to Ethel passing away in May of 1998.   Bill was an iron worker for Local 33 out of Rochester, NY and upon his retirement he began working for several area farmers throughout the years.  Most recently he worked with and was a good friend of Dave Wallace.   Bill served his country in the United States Army.  He was a Paratrooper for the 101st Airborne during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

 

Bill was an avid hunter, fisherman and trapper and was quite successful at all of them!   Bill was a past member of the Dansville Moose, a current member of the American Legion and the Springwater Rod-and-Gun Club. 

 

Bill was pre-deceased by his parents, Clyde and Helen Caskey; and his wife, Ethel Caskey.  He is survived by his sons, Lewis (Pam) Caskey of Springwater and Roger (Christine) Caskey of Springwater; his grandchildren, Charlie, Henry and Jessica; his sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Carl Brehm of Springwater; several in-laws and members of Ethel’s family; many nieces and nephews; and his dog, Judy Two!

 

Bill’s family and friends may call Tuesday from 4-7pm at the St. George-Stanton Funeral Home, 109 West Naples St., Wayland.  Bill’s funeral service will be Wednesday at 11am at the funeral home.  Committal prayers, military honors and interment will take place immediately following at Evergreen Cemetery in Springwater.  Contributions in memory of William F. Caskey may be made to the Springwater Rod-and-Gun Club, 8335 Hudson Rd., Springwater, NY 14560 or to the Springwater American Legion Post # 905, 7998 School St., Springwater, NY 14560.
