Obituary of John E. Fahl

Wayland – John E. Fahl, 78 years of age, passed away Tuesday morning February 24th, 2015 at his home. John was born March 20th, 1936 in Burdette, NY. He grew up in Montour Falls and also resided in Elmira, Rochester and eventually settled in Wayland in 1969. John served his country in the United States Marine Corps from September 8, 1954 until his honorable discharge September 12, 1958. He remained an active reservist for several years following his discharge from active duty. John retired from Eastman Kodak after 32 years of employment. During his tenure at Kodak he worked in security and construction. John and Gail Johnson were married January 22nd, 1960 in Churchville and together celebrated over 54 years of marriage prior to her passing away in October of 2014. John’s hobbies were many as he enjoyed woodworking, fishing and riding motorcycles and scooters. He and Gail enjoyed travelling throughout the years and especially enjoyed the Grand Canyon, going on cruises and spending winters in Florida. He was a fixture at Smitty’s Pop and Hops Restaurant and Coffee Shop, where you could find him almost every morning for years. John was also a member of the Masons, the NRA and the Wayland American Legion. John was pre-deceased by his wife, Gail Fahl; his parents, John and Ruth Manning; his sister Lois Huntoon and his brother, Robert Fahl. He is survived by his daughter, Ann Schmidt of Wayland; his son, Ron Fahl of Wayland; his grandson, Gregory Baroody of Wayland; along with nieces and nephews. A memorial service for both John and his wife Gail will take place Sunday August 9th, 2015 at the Village Cemetery. Memorial contributions in John E.
