Obituary of James M. Flaitz
James M. Flaitz, age 78, passed away February 24, 2020 with his sons by his side. Jim was the son of Samuel and Virginia (Weaver) Flaitz.
Jim graduated from Hornell High School in 1960 and went on to earn a Bachelors of Health and Physical Education and Masters of Education at SUNY Brockport. Jim spent his entire 31-year career in education, holding various positions at both Wayland Central School and BOCES in Mount Morris. He retired from Wayland-Cohocton as Assistant Superintendent in 1996.
In his earlier years, Jim enjoyed flying sailplanes and coaching various sports including baseball and swimming. After retirement, he spent his winters in Florida where he enjoyed bragging about the weather, playing golf, pickle ball and Pétanque. When in NY during the summer, Jim liked spending time on Canandaigua Lake, shooting sporting clays and enjoying time with family.
Jim is predeceased by his loving wife of 45 years, Merna (Harwood). Jim is survived by his sons, Michael (Amy) of Farmington NY and David (Dee) of Victor NY, four grandchildren: Allison, Ryan, Sydney and Kelsey. He is also survived by his partner of 9 years, Marilyn Gross.
At Jim’s request services will be private.
