Obituary of Roy H. Gibson

East Springwater - Roy H. Gibson, 90 years of age, passed away Thursday afternoon July 2, 2020 with his family by his side at the home of his daughter in Camillus, NY. Roy loved his family, his farm and the Fourth of July It is truly fitting that his funeral will be on America’s birthday. Roy was born August 26th, 1929 in East Springwater, the son of Gordon and Sadie (Robinson) Gibson. He grew up and was a life resident of the East Springwater area. Roy married the love of his life, Shirley Wixom, April 1st, 1951 at the Atlanta Presbyterian Church, where Roy was a lifelong member. They were blessed to celebrate 69 years of marriage. Roy and Shirley resided the majority of their lives together on their potato farm in East Springwater, and spent the winter months residing in North Fort Myers and Lauderdale by-the-Sea, Fl. They lived the last few years in Camillus near their daughter Robin and her family. Roy spent his entire working career growing potatoes for Frito Lay and was heavily involved in conservation and land improvement. He was a member of the Steuben Potato Growers Inc. and the Dansville Flying Club. Roy enjoyed farming, snowmobiling, flying and spending time with his family which includes his wife Shirley and their four children, and three grandchildren. Roy was pre-deceased by his parents, Gordon and Sadie Gibson; his brother, Clarence Gibson and his sister, Marion Sniffen. He is survived by his wife Shirley Gibson of Camillus; his children, Linda (Michael) Erb of Tulsa, OK, Robin (John) Katko of Camillus, NY, Jennifer Gibson (Meg DeSomery) of Provincetown, MA and Roy Jr. of Camillus, NY; his 3 grandchildren, Sean, Logan and Liam Katko, along with several nieces and nephews. Due to the Covid 19 crisis, Roy’s funeral service will be private. He will be buried at Clearview Cemetery in N. Cohocton. Please visit www.stgeorgefuneralhome.com for online condolences.
