Obituary of Scott J. Rice Sr.

Sparta – Scott J. Rice Sr., 59 years of age, passed away Monday July 6, 2020 at his home on Reeds Corners Rd.. Scott was born February 4, 1961, in Warsaw, the son of William W. and Gladys E. (Prior) Rice. He grew up in Groveland and resided in Cohocton for several years and for the last 14 years he has lived in Sparta. Scott and Lisa Holley were married January 15, 1983 in Springwater and together have celebrated over 37 years together. Scott enjoyed his job as a truck driver for many years at Hu-Gen Farms in Wayland. He also drove bus for Wayland-Cohocton Central School for 8 years. Scott enjoyed mowing his lawn, driving truck, farming and relaxing on his porch at the end of the day. He loved his coffee no matter the time of day! Scott enjoyed driving around checking out other farms and especially had to check in with John and Rich Stevenson of HuGen Farms every day to keep track of things. However Scott mostly loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will truly be missed by all his family and friends! Scott was pre-deceased by his parents, William and Gladys Rice; a brother, Dale Rice Sr. and a sister, Dawn Rice. He is survived by his wife, Lisa Rice of Sparta; his children, Scott Rice Jr. of Sparta, Elizabeth Fisk (Adam Zurlick) of West Sparta, David (Trisha) Rice of Perkinsville and Daniel “Danny” Rice of Sparta; his grandchildren, Jamie, Hailey, Leila, Jesse and Savannah; his siblings, Terry (Marge) Rice of Rochester, Tim Rice of Groveland Station and Connie Rice of Livonia; along with several nieces, nephews and in-laws. Scott’s family will attend a private viewing at St. George-Forsythe Funeral Home, Wayland. Scott’s funeral service will take place at the convenience of his family. Interment and committal prayers will take place at Kiehle Cemetery in Sparta. Contributions in memory of Scott J. Rice Sr. may be made to Paul N.
