Obituary of Mary M. Meese

Cohocton – Mary M. Meese, 85 years of age, passed away Saturday November 28, 2020 at Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville. Mary was born December 6, 1934 in Cohocton the daughter of Leroy and Hazel (Rosenberger) Meese. Of special significance for Mary, she was born in the same house that she has lived her entire life in. Mary graduated from Cohocton Central School in 1952 as the salutatorian of her class. She graduated from Albany State College and then graduated from Geneseo College with a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education. Mary’s employment career was entirely at Cohocton School. She was a first grade teacher and throughout the years she had a positive impact on hundreds of children. In 1992 she retired from her teaching career and began a long retirement. The Catholic Church was very important to Mary. She was a lifelong communicant of St. Pius Church being very active on various committees that included the Parrish Council. Mary’s hobbies were many. She enjoyed all kinds of crafts, especially sewing (making her own clothes), knitting, cross stitching and looming. Mary took pleasure with reading, playing solitaire and most recently keeping her brain sharp by enjoying various mindful games, especially Sudoku. She continued challenging herself to keep her mind active. Mary was pre-deceased by her parents Leroy and Hazel Meese; her brothers, Ronald and Richard Meese; and a nephew, Michael Meese. Mary is survived by her brother, Lee Meese of TX; her nephews and nieces, David, John, Valerie and Jennifer; her special family, Greg, Bret, Bart, Chloe and Nicholas; along with many other friends throughout the church and local community. Mary’s family and friends will attend a private viewing at St. George-Forsythe Funeral Home. A private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Mary at St. Pius Church in Cohocton along with her interment at St. Pius Cemetery in Cohocton. Contributions in memory of Mary M.
