Obituary of Janice L. (Edmond) Hohman

Marietta, GA - Wayland– Janice Lorraine (Edmond) Hohman, 72 years of age, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 from complications of Multiple Sclerosis. Janice was born on October 26, 1948 in Wayland, NY, the eighth child of Robert and Mary (Bricks) Edmond. She grew up in Perkinsville, NY. After graduating from Wayland Central School, she went on to get her BA degree in History at Nazareth College in Rochester, NY, and her Master of Medical Library Science at the University of Chicago. Upon graduation, she worked as a professional librarian for 12 years. Janice heroically battled MS for 55 years. Though often bruised and battered by this ugly disease, she came back every time stronger and more determined. MS never defined her. Jan was fierce and stubborn. A beautiful, loving, social, and brilliant woman, she was also witty, funny, and she always retained a fine interest and knowledge of the arts, particularly music. Jan celebrated life every day, she had grand adventures all over the world, a wonderful love story, friends and family who adored her, and a profession that she loved. Janice was pre-deceased by her beloved husband of 38 years, Edward Hohman; her parents, Robert and Mary; four of her older sisters, Barbara Panus, Sara Fawcett, Judith Page, Kay Walsh; and, by her younger brother, Jack Edmond. As well, Janice was pre-deceased by three brothers-in-law, Henry Panus, Wayne O’Sullivan and Toby Duckett. Janice is survived by siblings Sue (and William) Conway of Knoxville, TN, Mary Jo O’Sullivan of Amherst, NY, Robert Edmond of Fayetteville, PA, Teresa (and Thomas) Coffey of Powder Springs, GA and Irene (and Michael) Rosenberg of New Paltz, NY. She is survived by brothers-in-law, Arthur Page and Norbert Walsh, and sisters-in-law, Millie Edmond, Heidi Hohman and Bonnie Duckett. Janice was also the proud and loving aunt of 34 nieces and nephews and their partners, even more great nieces and nephews and their partners, and more than a few great-great nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Friday September 17, 2021 at 11am at Sacred Heart Church in Perkinsville. Interment will take place immediately following at Sacred Heart Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Janice’s honor to Sacred Heart Cemetery, 206 Fremont St., Wayland, NY 14572 or the charity or cause close to your heart.
