Obituary of Carolyn Acomb Sick

Dansville – Carolyn A. Sick, 90 years of age, passed away Saturday May 1, 2021 at the Steuben Healthcare Facility in Bath. Carolyn was born September 26, 1930 in Dansville the daughter of Edward and Marie (Roche) Acomb. She grew up in Dansville and on September 30, 1952 married Donald Sick. They resided in Cohocton together for many years prior to Donald passing away October 31, 1974. In 1978 Carolyn moved to Wayland for a few years before settling in Dansville in 1985. Carolyn was a graduate of Dansville Central School and then earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Niagara College. She was employed her entire career as a nurse and healthcare professional. She worked for Dansville Hospital; Cohocton School; taught nursing at Alfred State College and for many years was self-employed as a nurse taking care of people in their homes. Carolyn’s hobbies were many! She loved to refurbish antiques; work in her garden; along with cooking and canning. She enjoyed travelling to the casino and taking walks. Carolyn was pre-deceased by her parents, Edward and Marie Acomb; her husband, Donald Sick; her son Michael; her siblings, Jean VanLandingham, Marjorie Acomb, Richard “Bud” Acomb, James Acomb, Peggy Mastin, Edward Acomb and Evelyn Roberts. She is survived by her children, James (Ikumi) Sick of Tokyo, Japan, Gary (Judy) Sick of OR, Terrence (Leah) Sick of Rochester and Joseph (Quita) Sick of Cohocton; her grandchildren, Mikey Sick, Carlito (Karen) Blanco, Carolisa (Caleb) Thayer-Sick; her sister-in-law Diane Acomb of Dansville; along with several nieces and nephews. Carolyn’s family and friends may call Thursday from 5-7 pm at St. George-Forsythe Funeral Home, 109 West Naples St., Wayland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Carolyn Friday at 11am at St. Joseph’s Church, 206 Fremont St., Wayland. Committal prayers and interment will take place immediately following at Mapleview Cemetery in Cohocton. Contributions in memory of Carolyn A. Sick may be made to the Vincent House, 310 Second Ave., Wayland, NY 14572.
