Obituary of Shirley A. Gibson

Wayland / Springwater – Shirley A. Gibson, 90 years of age, passed away early Wednesday morning June 2, 2021 at Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, with her loving family by her side. Shirley was born May 14th, 1931 in North Cohocton, NY, the daughter of Leo and Mildred (Montanye) Wixom. She grew up in the North Cohocton area. Shirley and Roy Gibson entered into marriage, April 1st, 1951 at the Atlanta Presbyterian Church. Together they celebrated over 69 years of marriage prior to Roy passing away July 2, 2020. Shirley and Roy resided the majority of their lives together on their potato farm in East Springwater. For the several years during retirement they spent a portion of their time residing in North Fort Myers and Lauderdale by-the-Sea, Fl. Shirley was such a gentle, sweet, giving woman. Her greatest joy was her family, grandchildren and friends. She worked side by side with Roy keeping the farm business running smoothly. Shirley always dressed for every occasion with all the accessories. She enjoyed having family gatherings, Spud Lake, snowmobiling and ocean walks. She’s best known for her amazing pies, including her award winning grape pie. Shirley has also been a life-long member of the Atlanta Presbyterian Church. Shirley was pre-deceased by her parents, Leo and Mildred Wixom; her husband, Roy Gibson Sr.; and her sister Phyllis Bill. She is survived by her children, Linda (Michael) Erb of Tulsa, OK, Robin (John) Katko of Camillus, NY, Jennifer Gibson (Meg DeSomery) of Provincetown, MA, and Roy Jr. of Camillus; 3 grandchildren, Sean (Kristina), Logan and Liam Katko; her brother Leo (Barbara) Wixom of OH; along with nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Camillus Ridge Terrace and the Upstate Neurology ICU for their loving and compassionate care. Shirley’s family and friends may call Sunday June 6, 2021 from 11am – 12pm at St. George-Forsythe Funeral Home, 109 West Naples St., Wayland. Shirley’s funeral service will be Sunday at 12pm at the funeral home. Internment and committal prayers will take place at Clearview Cemetery in N. Cohocton immediately following.
