Obituary of Eileen T. Schneider
Eileen Theresa Hamilton was born on September 17, 1927, in St. Catharine’s, Ontario, Canada. She was the eldest of two daughters born to Michael Sheridan Hamilton and Mabel Elizabeth Murray. Both she and her sister, Patricia were educated in Ontario, Canada in Catholic elementary and high schools near St. Catharine’s and in Toronto.
Eileen met her husband, John Schneider thru her cousin, Thomas Hamilton and they married in St. Catharine’s, Ontario on September 30, 1950. Johnny and Eileen were married 54 years before his passing in October of 2004. At first, coming to a small town in the Finger Lakes was a challenge but she managed to stay on the couple’s farm for nearly 70 years. Mrs. Schneider was a devout Catholic and loved her little church in Cohocton, NY. She was a member of the St. Pius Sodality, helped to clean and decorate the church, served as organist for six years and sang in the choir for over 50 years. Her life revolved around her church.
Eileen and John raised 5 children, Marie (Philip Corcoran), Michelle (Michael Belanger), Sharon (Thomas Leibenguth), Constance (Billy Mehlenbacher) and David Schneider (Teri Czerkas) All five children survive her.
You might also remember Eileen from “Milady’s Beauty Shop” in Wayland, where she was a hairdresser with her mother Betty and then sole proprietress for 25 years.
Eileen was an artist, and it could be seen in everything she did. She loved painting, yard sales, antiques and was always creating and making things new again. Until she was 91 you would see her tending her yard, the old house and driving her Kubota tractor. In later years she worked with the Cohocton Historical Society and loved the Larrowe House. Eileen worked fervently for the Windmill Project. Until a week before she died, she followed politics and the War in Ukraine.
Eileen is survived by her seven grandchildren, Hillary (Dennis Robords), Mark David Palmer (Dawn), Michael Palmer (Rachel), Jessica Adriance (John), Danny Mehlenbacher (Stacy), Brett Schneider (Lindsey) and Brandon Schneider. Additionally, Eileen had 10 great grandchildren, Mattison Robords, Quinton Palmer, Sheldon Palmer, Owen Palmer, Tristen Palmer, Garrett Mehlenbacher, Morgan Mehlenbacher, Weston Mehlenbacher, Tess Adriance and Peyton Adriance.
Eileen’s Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am on April 29, 2022, at the church she loved, St Pius X in Cohocton, followed by committal services at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery (NEW) in Wayland, NY.
