Obituary of Frederick Charles Fierthaler

Wayland – Frederick C. Fierthaler, 81 years of age, passed away Saturday July 16, 2022 at Noyes Memorial Hospital. Fred was born February 12, 1941 in Brooklyn, NY the son of Charles F. and Madeline C. (Steinway) Fierthaler. He grew up in Brooklyn and graduated from St. John’s Prep High School. Fred then attended and graduated from St. John’s University with a degree in history. Fred and Kathleen Groshon were married September 23, 1969 and have celebrated over 52 years of marriage. They resided on Long Island for twelve years and in 1982 they moved to Upstate New York. Fred was employed by Royal Globe Insurance Company in Manhattan for many years. Fred’s hobbies were many. He enjoyed collecting trains, toy soldiers, swimming and diving, creative writing along with planning and planting gardens. He was an avid animal lover and enjoyed many dogs and cats throughout the years. Fred was also a lifelong and avid fan of the New York Rangers Ice Hockey Team! Fred was pre-deceased by his parents, Charles and Madeline Fierthaler. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Fierthaler of Wayland; his daughter and son in law, Barbara and Michael Deuel of Rochester; his grandchildren, Victoria Burkhart of GA, Colette (Michael) Maddox of IL and Marlee (Christopher) Lossing of FL; 5 great-grandchildren; his brother in law, Leroy Edmund Groshon of AZ; his sister in law, Marleen Fall of MI; and his close friend, Terry Johnson of Wayland. Fred’s family and friends may call Friday July 22, 2022 from 1-3pm at St. George-Forsythe Funeral Home, 109 West Naples St., Wayland. Interment will take place immediately following at Westview Cemetery in Ossian. Contributions in memory of Frederick C.
