Obituary of Edith E. Zimmerman

Cohocton – Edith Julia Eldridge Zimmerman, passed away on the evening of January 4, 2023, at the age of 89. Edith was born October 29, 1933 in Fillmore, daughter of George and Leona (Pettit) Eldridge. She grew up in Wiscoy, NY. Throughout the years she had resided in Nunda, Hornell, Cohocton, Bath, and Canandaigua. Eventually, Edith returned to Cohocton to enjoy her retirement years. Edith met her true love, Lyle, while playing in a local band. They exchanged vows April 11, 1952 in Arkport. They celebrated over 47 years of marriage. When she was young she loved helping her Grandparents at their cheese factory. After completing high school Edith furthered her education, by graduating business school in Hornell. After marrying her forever love, she and Lyle owned and operated a local bakery, where she discovered her talent for baking cookies. Her cookies became a family loved Christmas tradition. Edith contributed to her community by serving the Ontario County Treasury department for more than 45 years. Her hobbies were many! She loved singing and playing the piano and she could sure get going with Ragtime and Jazz Blues! Edith enjoyed crocheting, knitting and making her children’s costumes and clothes. Crossword puzzles and word searches were a favorite pastime. Edith was a hard worker and enjoyed life. She will be dearly missed by family and friends. Edith was preceded in death by her husband Lyle Zimmerman and her parents; George and Leona Eldridge, her sister Helen, and brother in law, Sam Hall. She is survived by her children, Lawrence (Carol) Zimmerman of Canandaigua, Martha (Dave) Simolo of Cohocton, Jefferson (Shelia) Zimmerman of Louisiana, and Michael Zimmerman of Washington; her 8 grandchildren, Krystal Zimmerman, Jonathan (Cristel), Erin (Landon) Sons, Laura and Devon Zimmerman, Samantha (Ty) Little, and Niki and Richard Zimmerman; and 8 great-grandchildren. Edith’s calling hours will be Thursday January 12, 2023 from 4-7pm at St. George-Forsythe Funeral Home, 109 West Naples St., Wayland. Edith’s funeral service will be Friday January 13, 2023 at 10am at the funeral home. Interment will immediately follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Canandaigua. Contributions in memory of Edith E.
