Obituary of Theodore L. Canute

Springwater – Theodore L. Canute – “Theo” “Ted” – 60 years of age, passed away Tuesday morning, March 22, 2023 at Vincent House in Wayland. Theo was born January 26, 1963 in Wayland, the son of Thomas L. Sr. and Mary (Granger) Canute. He grew up in Springwater and lived there most of his life. He was a 1982 graduate of Wayland Central School and also a graduate of Alfred State College with an Associate’s Degree in Automotive and Diesel Tech. After college, he worked for 20+ years at Kodak. He resided 15 of those 20 years on a houseboat on the Genesee River. Once Ted retired from Kodak he moved back to Springwater where he spent the remainder of his life. Subsequent to his time at Kodak, he earned his HVAC Accreditation in Rochester and became self-employed. Residential home improvement including, HVAC, electrical, plumbing and excavation was his specialty. As of late, running heavy equipment was his favorite. Hard work was not all he enjoyed. Ted loved hunting and fishing; playing golf; rooting for the Penske NASCAR Team; and reconditioning a 1969 Road Runner and a 1964 GMC retired fire truck. Of most importance to him though was raising and spending time with his boys, Brandon and Ben. Ted also volunteered in many organizations. He was a lifetime member of Springwater Fire Department; he served 40 years in SAL Kern Robinson Post 905 holding many offices throughout the years; a supporter of the Springwater Historical Society cooking many pulled pork dinners; a former member of the Mount Vernon Evergreen Cemetery Committee; and a past member of the Springwater Rod-N-Gun Club. Ted was pre-deceased by his mother, Mary Canute and his brother Terrance Canute. He is survived by his sons, Brandon and Ben Canute of Springwater; his father, Thomas L. Canute Sr. of Springwater; his sister, Carlene (Miguel) Negron of SC; his brother, Thomas L. Jr. (Jacquie) Canute of Springwater; along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews on both sides of his family. Contributions in memory of Theodore L. Canute may be made to Vincent House, 310 Second Avenue, Wayland, NY 14572. Ted’s family will have a private celebration of life at their convenience.
