Obituary of Hugh M. Stevenson Jr.

Wayland – Hugh M. Stevenson Jr., 77 years of age, passed away early Thursday morning April 13, 2023 at Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville. Hugh was born October 24, 1945 in Rochester the son of Hugh M. Sr. and Helen (Bajus) Stevenson. He grew up in Rochester, graduated high school and attended college after that. Hugh and Genevieve “Gen” Panepinto were high school sweethearts and were married July 15, 1967 at St. Ambrose Church in Rochester. Together they have celebrated over 55 years of marriage. Hugh and Gen moved out to the Wayland – Springwater area in 1969 and have remained there ever since then. Hugh’s employment career included a 25 year career with the Brighton Fire Department – Brighton Fire Fighters IAFF Local 2233. He continued his firefighting service after retirement with the Springwater Fire Department and was a life member. All the while though his passion for farming was evident. Hugh and Gen began farming when they moved to Wayland and Hu-Gen Farms was developed. What began as a small farm with homemade greenhouses has evolved into a large operation that includes flowers, vegetables, crops and provides farming services to many area farms. His presence on the farm will be remembered and honored for years to come. Hugh also loved music. He played the fiddle and toured locally with the Dady Brothers, a local Irish band. He raised draft horses for many years, was a member of the Springwater Grange, being the youngest president at the time and a member of the Dansville Moose Club. Hugh’s legacy though will be his family and the genuine care he had for all people. Helping whenever he could no matter the circumstances was how he lived. Hugh will be missed at the farm market, local communities; including farmers and growers, his brothers he served with in the Brighton Fire Department and especially his family. Hugh was predeceased by his parents, Hugh M. Sr and Helen Stevenson.
