Obituary of Doryce M. Ryan

Wayland - Doryce Marie Glover Ryan died peacefully on June 1, 2023, in Rochester, New York, at Strong Memorial Hospital at 82-years-old surrounded by family. Doryce Marie Glover was born October 19, 1940 to Menzer and Magdalene (Didas) Glover in Wayland, New York. She grew up in Painted Post, New York. She married Theodore E. Ryan, Sr., in January of 1959. They lived at Camp Le June, NC for Theodore’s service in the US Marine Corps. They later moved back to Wayland where they raised 5 children. Throughout her life, she was an incredibly hard worker, regularly working 2 jobs at a number of businesses in the Wayland area, including Gunlocke furniture manufacturer for 37 years. After she retired, she began volunteering to “drive the old people around town” for Faith in Action. She’s remembered as a generous woman that rarely complained and loved animals, specifically her dog Tanker. She had a warm disposition and could make a stranger into a friend by the end of a conversation. She had a great sense of humor until the end. Doryce was an active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wayland. She loved reading, ceramics, crossword puzzles and was also a member of the Rosary Society and Golden Agers. Doryce is survived by her 5 children Audrey-Anne (Kevin) Goddard - Springwater, NY, Theodore “Ted” Ryan Jr - Wayland, NY, Theresa Ryan (Ed Eubanks) - Tulsa, OK, Kevin (Alison) Ryan - Clemson, SC, Bernie (Candi) Ryan - Church Hill, TN, and grandchildren John (Carrie) Goddard; Megan (Neil) Wing; Brittany, Jack and Erika Ryan; Ryan Salay; Terry (Mandy) Mathews, as well as great-grandchildren Tanner and Tucker Mathews and Harper and Chase Wing. She was preceded in death by her parents, Menzer and Madeline Glover, and her husband, Theodore E Ryan, Sr. Doryce’s family and friends may call Sunday June 4, 2023 from 1-4pm at St. George-Forsythe Funeral Home, 109 West Naples St., Wayland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday June 5, 2023 at 11am at St. Joseph’s Church, 206 Fremont St., Wayland. A special thanks to the Palliative Care Unit at Strong Memorial Hospital who made her final days comfortable.
