Obituary of Geraldine V. Goss

Wayland – Geraldine V. Goss, 95 years of age, passed away Thursday afternoon, August 3, 2023 at Living Center at Geneva North in Geneva. Gerry was born April 24, 1928 in Hornell the daughter of Ira and Eloise (Caple) Davis. She grew up in and resided in several different areas that included; Auburn, Hornell, Holland Patent, Ulysses, PA and East Aurora. Gerry and Francis Goss were married July 6, 1946 and together they celebrated almost 57 years of marriage. Gerry and Fran moved to the Wayland area in the late 1940’s. Fran passed away in 2003 and Gerry remained in Wayland until 2014 when she moved to Geneva. Early in life, Gerry worked at the Silk Mill. Upon marriage and motherhood she thrived as embarked on homemaker, housewife and mother to her two children. During this she also was the bookkeeper for Goss Excavating and secretary for many bowling leagues. Her memory was impeccable. She would see people searching for graves at the cemetery and would often walk over and direct them without looking at the map. She loved staying busy doing yardwork, playing Euchre and other card games, tending to her cats, volunteering at the local nursing home, driving for Faith in Action and active at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Perkinsville of which she was a member for many years. Gerry was pre-deceased by her parents, Ira and Eloise Davis; her husband Francis Goss; her sister and brother in law, Lola and Sid Fursman and her brother and sister in law, Ira and Sylvia Davis. She is survived by her daughter, Teresa Goss of Geneva, NY and her son Wayne (Jackie) Canute-Goss of Livonia; her nieces, Cynthia Synakowski of Holland Patent, NY and Trish Hartman of Lebanon, TN; her nephew Don (Mary) Fursman of Brookhaven, PA; her God-son, Darrell (Sharon) Pragel of Mulberry, TN; along with several grandnieces and grandnephews. Gerry’s family and friends may call Tuesday August 8, 2023 from 10am-12pm at St. George-Forsythe Funeral Home, 109 West Naples St., Wayland. Her funeral service will be at 12pm Tuesday at the funeral home. Committal prayers and interment will take place immediately following at Wayland Village Cemetery.
