Obituary of Walter S. Jezewski
Wayland – Walter S. Jezewski, 62 years of age, passed away, Monday morning, November 23, 2015. Walt was born July 10, 1953 in Buffalo the son of Thomas and Josephine (Kuligowska) Jezewski.
Walt grew up in the Buffalo and Cheektowaga areas and graduated from Maryville High School in 1971. He also attended Erie Community College studying criminal justice. He resided in different areas throughout his life including Hornell, Hammondsport, and Perry Center and since 1985, he has lived in Wayland. Walt and Diane Callahan were married October 20th, 1984 in Buffalo and together have celebrated over 31 years of marriage. They have raised two sons, Stephen and Jesse. Walt’s employment career has been mostly spent as a corrections officer at Groveland Correctional Facility. In 2004 he received the valor award from (NYSCOPA) New York State Correctional Officers and Police Benevolent Association. He retired after 27 years of service in in 2011.
Throughout the years, Walt was a member of the Corrections Honor Guard of Groveland, a member of the Dansville VFW Post 6780 and a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church of the Holy Family Catholic Community. He was an avid golfer playing almost every day he could after his retirement. Walt also loved to hunt and fish.
Walt was pre-deceased by his parents, Thomas and Josephine Jezewski; and a brother, Robert Jezewski. He is survived by his wife, Diane Jezewski of Wayland; his sons Stephen Jezewski of Bath and Jesse Jezewski of Wayland; his mother-in-law, Eileen Callahan of Wayland; his siblings, Lawrence Jezewski of Blazedale, NY; his sister, Janice (Dale) Rossi of PA; his brother-in-law John (Kim) Callahan of PA; along with several nieces and nephews.
Walt’s family and friends may call Wednesday from 4:00 – 7:00pm and Friday from 4:00 – 7:00pm at the St. George-Stanton Funeral Home, 109 West Naples St., Wayland. A prayer service will take place at 8:15 Saturday morning at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Walt at 9:00am Saturday at St. Joseph’s Church in Wayland. Committal prayers, military honors and internment will take place at St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Buffalo. Memorial contributions in Walter S. Jezewski’s memory may be made to the Vincent House, 310 Second Ave., Wayland, NY 14572.
