Obituary of John P. Reynolds

Wayland / Patchinville – John P. Reynolds, 90 years of age, passed away Monday November 23, 2015 at St. John’s Home in Rochester. John was born October 27, 1925 in Wayland. He was the son of John A. and Hilda (Peabody) Reynolds, and resided in the area most of his life. John and Alice Mark entered into marriage on December 27, 1952 at Sacred Heart Church and have celebrated 62 years together. John was a graduate of Wayland Central School and the Rochester Business Institute. He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. John’s employment career was mostly spent in local grocery stores, retiring in 1987. His retirement job was driving dealer trade cars from West Herr car dealership in Dansville, to and from Buffalo. He loved to drive. John would also drive friends and acquaintances’ vehicles from the Wayland area to Florida, and fly back home. John’s community service was very important to him. He was an active communicant of Sacred Heart Church, serving on the parish council, a lay lector, Eucharistic minister, altar server and a member of the Notre Dame Retreat League. He was a Lions Club member for over 30 years and a member of the Perkinsville Fire Department, serving as secretary and treasurer. He was also a dedicated volunteer at the fire department pancake breakfasts. John loved to walk for fitness throughout the fire hall building. As a result of his commitment to his walking, the fitness center on the second floor of the fire hall was named after him. John enjoyed sports, and especially loved following his favorite teams, the New York Yankees and the Cleveland Browns. Among his passions were music, playing cards with friends, and fishing at Canadice Lake. John was pre-deceased by his parents, John A. and Hilda Reynolds. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Alice, of Rochester; his sons, Alan Reynolds and his dear friend, Esta De Carlo of Rochester; Timothy Reynolds and his wife, Shelley, of Endicott; his granddaughter, Chelsea (Jack) Cary and grandson, Ben Reynolds; his sister-in-law Patricia Pragel; his nephew, Thomas Pragel; along with many cousins, especially H.
