Obituary of Robert Jon Sahrle

Springwater – Robert Jon Sahrle, 69 years of age, passed away late Friday afternoon, December 13, 2024 in Springwater. Bob was born August 14, 1955 in Bath the son of Charles and Helen (Blowers) Sahrle. He grew up in Springwater; graduated from Wayland Central School in 1974 and has remained a life resident of Springwater. Bob and Susan M. Donovan were married May 4, 1985 at the Sparta United Methodist Church and have celebrated over 39 years together. Bob’s career began as a Machinist with Stone Conveyor in Honeoye and then Eastman Kodak in Rochester. His career path led him to what he loved the most; and that was working outdoors. He drove all kinds of trucks and motorized equipment for many local companies and farms. His first job at the age of 10 was working on the Becker Farms and he was proud that he was entrusted with operating farm equipment. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved “trolling” on Hemlock Lake with his boat. If not fishing, he could be found pulling around his kids and grandkids on a tube or skis at one of the Finger Lakes or in the Adirondacks. Camping in the Adirondacks gave him a time to play as a child with his siblings and as an adult with family and friends enjoying the simple pleasures of life. His1950 John Deere B was his treasure. It was a tradition for the “B” to be a part of the Springwater Memorial Day Parade. One of his favorite past times was riding through the hills and fields of East Springwater checking on crops and spending time at The Cabin in West Springwater. The center to his world was family. He had a lot of titles—Husband, Dad, Grandpa, Great Grandpa, Brother, Uncle, and Guardian. His presence brought joy and fun to all. As his family stated, he was “an amazing husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather!” His passing was sudden but his memory will dearly linger forever. Part of his legacy will be known as Bob’s Barn. If the garage/barn door was open, all were welcome to stop, enjoy a beverage or two and talk about everything from old times to what is going on in town. Many, many forever and good memories with family and friends were created at these get togethers. He was a 50 year member of the Springwater Fire Department. He held many titles and offices during that time but the one he was most proud of was “Fire Fighter”. To him, that represented commitment and dedication to being a part of a community. He was also a past member of the Springwater Rod and Gun and the Post 905 SAL. Bob was pre-deceased by his parents, Charles and Helen Sahrle; and two brothers, Gerald and Thomas Sahrle. He is survived by his wife, Sue Sahrle of Springwater; his children, Jessica (Chris) Andersen of OR; Amy (Joel) Goodwin of Springwater and Craig (Laura) Harter of Springwater; his grandchildren, Lynnea, Courtney, William, Kaitlin (Adrian) and Daniel; his great grandchildren, Brooklynn and Beau; his siblings and in-laws, Ronald and Linda Sahrle of Perkinsville, Millie (Jack) Edmond of Rochester, Bonnie Fink of NC, Kenneth Sahrle of Dansville, Valary Sahrle of Perry and Judi Sahrle of CO, Margaret (Darrell) Westurn of Springwater, Tim (Kathy) Donovan of Dansville, Colleen (Frank) Donovan of Springwater, Mike (Donna) Donovan of Springwater; along with many nieces and nephews and cousins. Bob’s family and friends may call Tuesday December 17, 2024 from 1-3pm and 6-8pm at St. George-Forsythe Funeral Home, 109 West Naples St., Wayland. Bob’s funeral service will be Wednesday December 18, 2024 at 10am at the funeral home. Committal and interment will take place immediately following at Pleasant Valley in Springwater. In Bob’s memory, all our family and friends are encouraged to wear “Bob” attire. Flannel shirts, jeans, work boots and (John Deere) hats. Contributions in memory of Robert J. Sahrle may be made to the Springwater Fire Department, PO Box 289, Springwater NY 14560.
