Obituary of Doris E. Alger

Hornell / Silver Creek / Knightdale, NC– Doris Ellen Lander Alger, 87, passed away Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at Transitions LifeCare in Raleigh, NC. She was born in Dansville, NY on January 12, 1928 the daughter of Erwin and Larena (Wellington) Lander. Doris married the love of her life on March 15, 1950, Raymond Frederick Alger. Throughout the years, Doris resided in many different areas that included Hornell, Silver Creek, and for the past several years, Knightdale, NC. Doris's hobbies were many throughout the years. They included sewing, knitting, reading and bowling. Spending time with her grandchildren was also one of her favorite activities. Doris was pre-deceased in life by her parents; her three brothers: Earl, Elmer and Milton Lander; her four sisters: Ruth Schubmehl, Florence Harloff, Mildred Simons and Cecil Curtis. She is survived by her husband, Raymond; her son, Tom Alger and his wife Kathleen of Leland, NC; her daughter, Sandy Alger of Knightdale, NC; her grandchildren: Cindy A. Goldwater, Cassie Apthorpe, Adam Alger (Heather), Brian Alger (Bethany); her great-grandchildren: Emily Goldwater, Colin Goldwater, Aidan Alger; along with many nieces and nephews. Doris’s family and friends may call Friday Dec. 11th, from 12:-1:00pm at the St. George-Stanton Funeral Home, 109 West Naples Street, Wayland, NY 14572. A service to celebrate her life will take place Friday at 1:00pm at the funeral home. A private burial will take place after the services at Rogersville Forest Lawn Cemetery, Dansville, NY.
