Obituary of Laura L. Saxton

Loon Lake – Laura L. Saxton, 79 years of age, passed away Tuesday March 29th, 2016 at Nicholas H. Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville. Laura was born February 28th, 1937 in Howard, the daughter of J. Brayton and Frances (Edwards) Lyke. Laura and Austin Saxton were married November 22, 1953 at the North Cohocton United Methodist Church. Together they have celebrated over 62 years of marriage. Laura and Austin have resided in the Loon Lake area their entire time together. Laura was a housewife and homemaker for Austin and their nine children. Her hobbies were many as she loved her flowers in the garden and her indoor plants. She especially enjoyed her rhubarb. Laura enjoyed the Bath Fair, being a member of the Grange in Howard and she was involved with 4H throughout the years. She was a member of the MOTC, Mothers of Twins Club. Watching Lawrence Welk on Saturday nights was also a favorite of hers as was collecting recipes and cooking. However, Laura’s family was of utmost importance to her. She raised nine children, and has enjoyed all of her 23 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren throughout the years. Family reunions were very special to her. Laura was truly loved and will be dearly missed by all her family and friends. Laura was pre-deceased by her parents and her brothers Clarence Lyke and Shirley Lyke. She is survived by her husband, Austin H. Saxton; her children, Richard (Lynn) Saxton, Jane (Walt) Barber, Carol (Mayo) Carrington, Keith (Sandra) Saxton, Kevin (Deborah) Saxton, Ronald (Janette) Saxton, Gary (Christina) Saxton, Beth (Kenneth) Reynolds, Teresa (Charles) Venn; 23 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews. Laura is also survived by her sisters Joyce A. Baker and MaryEtta (Charles) Saxton, and her brother Eldon (Pat) Lyke. Laura’s family and friends may call Friday from 4:00 – 7:00 pm at the St. George-Stanton Funeral Home, 109 West Naples St., Wayland. Her funeral service will be Saturday at 3:00pm at the Wallace Wesleyan Church, Rte. 415, Wallace. Memorial contributions in Laura L.
