Obituary of Harland M. Spencer

Dansville – Harland M. Spencer, 77 years of age, passed away Tuesday March 29th, 2016 at Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville. Harland was born October 14, 1938 in Dansville the son of Harley and Laura (Witherell) Spencer. Harland grew up in Dansville, graduated from Dansville Central School and has remained a resident that area his entire life. Harland and Barbara Rawleigh were married June 6th, 2014. Throughout the years Harland was employed as the Head Salesman for Main Tire Exchange retiring from the Rochester office after many years. For the past 14 years, he was employed as a bus driver for Livingston – Wyoming ARC in Mt. Morris. Harland was veteran of the United States Army serving during Vietnam from November 13, 1961 until his honorable discharge May 21, 1962. Harland was a life member and past commander of the Daniel Goho American Legion Post #87 in Dansville where he had served with the honor guard and firing squad. He was a 50 year member of the Union Hose Company No. 1 of the Dansville Fire Department and a charter member of the Dansville Ambulance. Harland enjoyed working and was constantly doing something to keep busy and not sit around. Helping others was a constant with Harland. Harland was pre-deceased by his parents, Harley and Laura Spencer. He is survived by his wife, Barbera Rawleigh-Spencer of Dansville; his son, Jeffrey Spencer of Palm City, FL and his daughter Jaclyn Spencer and her husband Bill Henry of Dansville; his brother, Robert (Carol) Spencer of Frewsburg; along with two nieces. Harland’s family and friends may call Monday 12:00 – 2:00pm at the St. George-Stanton Funeral Home, 109 West Naples St., Wayland. His funeral service will be Monday at 2:00pm at the funeral home with the Reverend David Hotchkiss officiating. Full military honors will be presented at the funeral home at the conclusion of his service. Memorial contributions may be made to Daniel Goho American Legion Post #87, PO Box 306, Dansville, NY 14437. Interment will be at Canaseraga Cemetery at the convenience of his family.
