Obituary of Gertrude Marie Arntsen

Springwater – Wayland – Gertrude Marie Arntsen, 103 years of age, passed away early Monday morning April 4th, 2016 at the Fred and Harriett Taylor Healthcare facility in Bath. Gertrude was born December 15th, 1912 in Rochester, the daughter of Andrew and L. Lillian (Clark) Arntsen. She grew up in Rochester and resided there for the majority of her life. Her employment career included a few different companies including, Taylor Instruments, Eastman Kodak and the Monroe County Commision of Jurors Office. Upon her retirement 27 years ago she moved to Springwater and lived there for many years prior to moving to Wayland with her son and daughter in-law, Leonard and Helen Butler Sr. For the past nine years, Gertrude has been a resident of the Fred and Harriett Taylor Healthcare facility. Throughout the years, Gertrude was an avid horseback rider and she loved to travel both within the United States and internationally. Much of her travelling was done alone as attended the World’s Fair in NYC and she took a train across Canada. Gertrude also had a passionate love of cats. Gertrude was pre-deceased by her parents; her first husband, John Houck Sr.; her second husband Edwin Butler; her son, John Houck III; and a half sister, Joan (Fong) Nellis. She is survived by her son Leonard (Helen) Butler Sr. of Wayland; her daughter-in-law, Inga Houck; nine grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; her half-sister, Shirley A. Neale of Hilton, NY; 2 nieces, Amy Hagen and Ruth (Jim) Wilson. Gertrude’s family and friends are invited to attend her funeral service on Saturday April 23rd, 2016 at 1:00 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 7858 Ave of Oaks, Arkport, NY 14807. Memorial contributions in Gertrude M. Arntsen’s memory may be made to Fred and Harriett Taylor Healthcare, 7571 State Rte. 54, Bath, NY 14810. Gertrude and her family have been assisted by the St. George-Stanton Funeral Home, 109 West Naples St., Wayland.
