Obituary of Bernice I. Towner

COHOCTON – Bernice "Bernie" Izora Woodhams Farley Towner, 94 years of age, passed away Monday afternoon (April 11, 2016) at St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell. Bernie was born July 6, 1921, in Cohocton, the daughter of Leroy J. and Florence Woodhams. Bernie and Theron Farley were married on July 25, 1959, in Dansville; he predeceased her in 1963. She also had a second husband, Claude Towner. They were wed Dec. 31, 1970 in Wayland; he also predeceased her in 1998. Bernie worked for Joseph L. Meyer and Sons, Inc for over 10 years and also Jablonski Farms for 8 years. She then worked for McFadden Hotel in Dansville for 8 years, retiring in 1990. Bernie enjoyed hunting and fishing with her sister Virginia and going to the market in Bath to see her friends. She also enjoyed driving around and looking at the hillsides and the scenery. Bernie loved to watch her favorite sports teams play on TV; the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Yankees. Bernie was predeceased by her parents; her first husband, Theron Farley; her son, Theron Harry Eric Farley; her second husband, Claude Towner; her sisters, Pauline Middaugh, Velma Moore, Emma Krisher, Virginia Little; her brothers, George Woodhams, Donald Woodhams and Harry Woodhams. She is survived by her niece Luella (David) Wise Sr. of Dalton; and nephew, Glenn Crasher of Youngstown, N.Y.; her friends who were like family and have lived by her for 37 years, Thomas and Bonnie Dubois Sr.; their children, whom she considered grandchildren, Thomas DuBois Jr., Charles DuBois and Angela (Jamie) Matarazzo; and other nieces and nephews. Bernie will be interred at Fremont Cemetery at the convenience of her friends and family. -
