Obituary of James M. Mastin
Wayland / Haines City, Florida – James “Jim” M. Mastin, 37 years of age, passed away Wednesday June 1st, 2016 at his home in Florida.
Jim was born October 5th, 1978 in Dansville, NY. He grew up in Wayland and graduated from Wayland-Cohocton Central School in 1997. Jim was also a 2001 graduate of SUNY Geneseo with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Arts. While in college, Jim enjoyed summer internships at Walt Disney World in Florida. Upon earning his degree he followed his dream and was employed by Disney. For several years he was at Epcot working with and designing laser light and fireworks shows. Within the last couple of years he was at Hollywood Studios at Disney working in entertainment as a technician/pyro-technician still working with the laser light and fireworks shows. Jim loved designing these shows, loved his work and followed his dream!!
Jim’s hobbies as a youth were many as well. He earned many ribbons in 4-H, was selected to attend Boys State, enjoyed reading and music. During high school he played the saxophone in the high school band and was a member of Jazz Band.
Jim was pre-deceased by his maternal grandparents, Robert and Mary Buckley. He is survived by his mother Mary Lou (Gunn) Gardner of Springwater; his father, Michael (Sandy) Mastin of Conesus; his sister, Jennifer (Frank) Kearney of SC; his paternal grandparents, Ivan and Virginia Mastin of Springwater; several aunts and uncles within both the Buckley and Mastin families; along with many many cousins; and several friends and fellow cast members at Disney.
Jim’s family and friends may call Monday from 4:00 – 8:00 pm at the St. George-Stanton Funeral Home, 109 West Naples St., Wayland. A family prayer service will be offered at 10:15 am Tuesday at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Jim at 11:00 am Tuesday at St. Joseph’s Church, Wayland. Committal prayers and internment will take place immediately following at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Wayland. Memorial contributions in James M. Mastin’s memory may be made to the Vincent House, 310 Second Ave., and Wayland, NY 14572 or to the American Diabetes Assoc., 160 Allens Creek Rd, Rochester, NY 14618.
