Dear Ed,
Because of the 4th, I was just thinking of you and Helen. You both were such wonderful lake neighbors to my parents (Don and Elaine). I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I would guess, like me, this time of year is especially difficult because all of the wonderful lake memories. I just told my daughter yesterday that you were the one who taught me to waterski. They laughed at the thought. Then I shared how Helen helped us buy our house. Time is so fleeting. I will contine to keep me in my prayers. We had stopped by your house either last year or the one before, but no one was home. I am sad I didn't try harder to reconnect with you both. May God bless you and over you peace.
Love,
Shann Hall-LochmannVanBennekom

As summer residents on East Lake Road, Ruth and I always looked forward to our summers at Loon Lake, and visits with our friends and neighbors around the Lake, of whom Helen was one. We always enjoyed seeing her handiwork in the exhibits at the Wayland Historical Society, and know she was a staunch member, supporter and officer of the Society for many years. She was always present for the Beef-on-Wick dinners, taking tickets and what ever else needed to be done. She and Ed were also on the Board of the Loon Lake Chapel, and as a mater of fact, when Ed retired from the Board several years ago, I was his replacement.
I know that her smiling face and happy demeanor will be sorely missed, particularly around Wayland and Loon Lake.
I regret the tardiness of this note, but I did not learn of her passing until I received the current issue off the Historical Society newsletter yesterday. April 9, 2018, with that wonderful photo on the cover.
I know and sympathise with the burdens of the transition period that Ed and others in the family will be going through in the coming months. as my own wife Ruth passed away last August. and consequently we didn't make it up to the Lake this past summer for the first time in about 20 years. My sympathies to all. Dick Maise

Dear Ed and family,
On behalf of the NYS Federation of Lake Associations, I want to extend my deepest sympathy on the passing of a wonderful lady. Helen's presence on our Board of Directors, and her tenure as President, was truly a benefit to our organization. Her legacy lives in in the many scrapbooks she created to allow members to view our history, newsletters, and conference brochures. Her dedication to the Citizens Statewide Lake Assessment Program is unparalleled, and we know that Loon Lake is in better condition for the next generation because she lived there. Her unwavering support for me and this organization over the decades has been so very much appreciated.
Of course, she never said a word about her illness even when I spoke with her just a short time ago. She will be so very much missed by all of us.

So sorry to hear this sad news. I knew Helen through her service as a board member and past president of the New York State Federation of Lake Association, another of her volunteer activities that showed her love of lakes. She cared and contributed, and she will be missed.

Helen You will be missed. I worked for Helen and she was avery gracious Lady. We were good friends at a time when I was young,in my teenage years. She brightened my time until I was out of school and taking care of my children.
Ed I know how you must feel ,I have no words that will comfort you. I just know that you made her life much happier. Know that she is With Jesus and her family. I am going to try and add you to my FaceBook and am happy that Carrie Beth came to see you. She is so precious to me. Both my girls are,but Carrie just shines all over . Take care Ed and God Bless.
