Helen Sick

Obituary of Helen B. Sick

Loon Lake / Wayland – Helen B. Sick, 84 years of age, passed away late Friday night February 9, 2018.  Helen was born July 30, 1933 in Springwater the daughter of Dana and Bertha (Ingram) Peck.

Helen grew up in the Springwater area and graduated from Wayland Central School.  Helen and Ed Sick were married October 9, 1966 in Honeoye and together have celebrated over 51 years of marriage.  They resided in Wayland for many years and enjoyed the summer months at their cottage on Loon Lake.  In 1989 they built a new home on Loon Lake and have resided there ever since.  Helen loved the lake and was a fixture there for decades.

Helen’s hobbies were many. Few knew of her love for art, especially painting and drawing.  She also enjoyed completing crossword puzzles.  However, it was Helen’s volunteer spirit that she will be remembered by.  She held numerous offices in the Loon Lake Association over the years; most recently she has been a board member of the Loon Lake Watershed Improvement Alliance (LLWIA); past president and editor of the Wayland Historical Society (securing a grant for $500,000 for the organization); volunteer at the Loon Lake Chapel (authoring a book about the history of the chapel and Loon Lake.) She loved the lake, helping others and was always busy.

Helen is survived by her husband Ed Sick; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Karl (Irene) Sick of York and Burl “Tom” (Kay) Sick of Orlando, FL; her nieces; her special friends throughout the years, John and Lisa Karl, Irene Harrington, Eric and Susan Busch, and Sam Lazerus; and her beloved dog, Gypsy.

Per Helen’s request there will not be a funeral service.  Committal and interment will be private for Helen’s family  at Lakeside Cemetery overlooking Loon Lake.
